Hey School of Arts and Sciences Program Students!
All I've been thinking about are the four main food groups, which, to elves, apparently are candy, candy canes, candy corns. and syrup. In reality, those aren't the actual food groups; the real ones are a lot healthier. 'Tis the season, my friends, for food, holiday cheer, and some cool events!
Check out the Tea with the Dean this Thursday at the SASHP Main Office and learn about teaching a First-Year Interest Group (FIGS)!
And there's also two Artists Collective events this week: an Artists Collective Writing Workshop today at 8 PM at the SASHP Main Office and the Artists Collective Coffeehouse this Thursday at 8 PM in the SASHP Main Office!
For our December/January Honors Alumni Spotlight, we have George Rears, RC '89, in the spotlight! Read about his experiences with the SASHP and advice he has for the students here!
Want a refresher on memorable events in history? See a lecture where John Dickerson from CBS will discuss his new book, Whistlestop: My Favorite Stories from Presidential Campaign History," on Thursday at 7 PM in Trayes Hall on Douglass!

Tea with the Dean: Teaching a First-Year Interest Group Seminar (FIGS) Information Session The Rutgers First-Year Interest Group Seminars (FIGS) Program is one of the few in the nation that allow an undergraduate to fully design and teach their own course! Only 1 in 200 upper-class students at Rutgers are provided anopportunity to teach their own course. Come meet the assistant director of the program, Susan Bennett, as well as former Peer Instructors, who will answer all of your questions about applying for this position.
NOTE: SAS Honors Program students who serve as FIGS Peer Instructors can count their experience as one of the two required Honors Colloquia.

United Nations Association's (UNA-USA) 2017 Members' DayThe United Nations Association's (UNA-USA) 2017 Members' Day will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Region, this conference will bring together UNA-USA and GenUN members from across the nation for a day of dynamic discussions on the theme 'The U.S. and the UN: New Leaders, Pressing Challenges.' This is an unparalleled opportunity to hear firsthand from global experts and high-ranking UN and U.S. Government officials at the very home of the UN. Online registration opened on December 1, 2016 and is ongoing.
The event is open to members of the United Nations Association and its collegiate arm, GenUN. If you are not already a member, please join (membership is free for college/university students) as soon as possible (preferably upon receipt of this message) by following this link: http://genun.unausa.org/join (please select Rutgers University as your campus chapter). Spring and Summer 2017 Study Abroad: Global ExperiencesToday's students are more international than those of any previous generation. Study Abroad programs remain the gold standard for pursuing academic studies in other countries, but many students are also interested in short, intensive experiences of one to three weeks. The SAS Honors Program is pleased to offer its students global, interdisciplinary opportunities in China, Mexico, Ireland, and Spain!

Art After Hours: First Tuesdays - "Circa 1866: European Prints from the Collection"Unwind after classes or work with curator-led tours of "Circa 1866: European Prints from the Collection." The exhibition includes several works that have been part of the Zimmerli’s collection since the museum was founded in 1966 as the Rutgers University Art Gallery. Art and Aesthetics: Kara Walker in Conversation with Evie ShockleyPlease join us at Rutgers for a rare occasion to hear Kara Walker speak about her work. Walker will be in conversation with Evie Shockley, a noted poet, critic, and member of the English Department. Walker is currently the Tepper Chair in the Visual Arts at Rutgers University. The event is sponsored by Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Center for Cultural Analysis, in association with our annual seminar on "Art and Aesthetics." The event is free and open to the public. The theater only seats about 300, so you'll want to arrive early.

Scarlet Ambassador Recruitment!The Scarlet Ambassador Program is comprised of model students at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Scarlet Ambassadors are leaders in and out of the classroom and are dedicated to advancing the mission of Rutgers University as part of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The program aims to foster growth, personal development, leadership, professionalism, and teamwork among Scarlet Ambassadors while they cultivate the first impression of Rutgers for thousands of prospective students each year through campus tours, recruitment programs, and daily interactions with visiting students.
