What attracted you to Rutgers University and the Honors/Scholars Program?
I liked that Rutgers was relatively close to home, affordable, and had so much to offer. I attended a very small junior/senior high school and was looking for a new experience in a much larger place. When I came to a scholars day on Douglass I fell in love with the feel of the place. I liked that Douglass offered the "best of both worlds" and that the scholars program offered me the opportunity to have an even smaller, supportive, scholarly environment within the vastness of Rutgers University.

Why did you choose your major and minor?
I entered college very undecided about my major, but knew I wanted to take a French course every semester to keep up with my language skills. I realized if I took two French courses some semesters that would be a major, so it was a pretty easy choice. I added anthropology in my junior year because I wanted a second major and I had always been interested in the topic.

Tell us a little bit about what you're doing now. What was your first job after Rutgers? Where you do you live?
My first job after Rutgers was working at a law directory. I didn't find that work very interesting, so I emailed a Douglass dean to ask her how to get a job like hers. She mentioned there were graduate programs in higher education and student affairs, and a whole new world opened up to me. I currently live near Rutgers, as I now work here!

What has been your greatest professional and/or personal accomplishment since you graduated Rutgers?
I served on a team that transformed our student information system at my prior university, despite having very little technological background knowledge. I ended up thriving on a project that I didn’t know I was suited for in the beginning.

Was there a class and/or experience at Rutgers that led you to pursuing your current career?
I would say the most closely aligned experience was serving as an academic advising assistant. I enjoyed being trained in the academic policies and requirements of Douglass and then going into the residence halls to help students select their classes for the upcoming semester.

What three words describe your experience at Rutgers and the Honors/Scholars Program?
Enriching. Fun. Enlightening.

How has your Rutgers and Honors education benefited you in your post-Rutgers life?
I met my husband here, so that obviously had a huge impact. I think what I enjoyed most about my classes, and honors seminars in particular, was the ability to see how everything is so interconnected. I've always loved learning, but Rutgers instilled in me a love for interdisciplinary, life-long learning.

What advice do you have for our current SAS Honors Program students?
Take advantage of as much as you can while you are here! Four years flies by so take each semester as an opportunity to try something new. Cultivate your friendships; hopefully some of them will be life-long. Remember that success is measured in many ways, not just in your gpa. It’s ok to take a winding path and enjoy the journey.
