490 Arsenal Way, Suite 100 Honors Alumna: Aliyah Weinstein, SAS '12 (Molecular Biology and Biochemistry & French Literature) Description of Organization: Addgene’s mission is to accelerate research and discovery by improving access to useful research materials and information. Addgene is a global, nonprofit repository that was created to help scientists share plasmids. Plasmids are DNA-based research reagents commonly used in the life sciences. When scientists publish research papers, they deposit their associated plasmids at Addgene. Then, when other scientists read the publication, they have easy access to the plasmids needed to conduct future experiments. Description of Role: I work on the Marketing and Communications Team. I coordinate our digital marketing efforts in scientific journals, design flyers and swag, and analyze web, marketing and social media campaign data. I also work on collaborative teams that focus on branding and customer-facing surveys. A typical Summer Shadow day would involve: The student would arrive at the beginning of the work day. They would have an opportunity to meet members of the Marketing and Communications team and learn about the different roles on the team. Depending on the student's interests, they could also meet with other Addgene employees on other teams such as scientific technical support, business development, data, research, etc. Additionally, they would spend more time shadowing me throughout the day, and learn about a specific area of my work that they were more interested in (choices would be marketing, data, or surveys). The student would be taken out to lunch with Addgene employees and could participate in any "fun" events that may be happening the day of their visit in order to interact with members of other teams in a more informal setting as well. 733 Third Avenue, Suite 510, New York, NY Honors Alumna: Sudha Sarode RC ‘10 (Public Health/Biological Sciences & Psychology), Manager, National Professional Education Description of Organization: The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cures for Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improving the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. It was founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D. Description of Role: I manage all aspects of online and live education programming on topics of inflammatory bowel diseases for gastroenterologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare providers. This can include submitting and reconciling grants/budgets with pharma companies, managing project timelines, working with faculty to develop educational powerpoints and content, and managing evaluation of programming. Deloitte is one of the "Big Four" accounting organizations and the largest professional services network in the world by revenue and number of professionals. Deloitte Government & Public Services Consulting is Deloitte's consulting arm, focused on leveraging Deloitte's assets, skills, and professionals for the Federal, State, and Local Governments. Description of Role: I work on a data science team, doing data analytics, querying and data visualization for the U.S. State Department through the consulting firm Deloitte. A typical Summer Shadow day would involve: I would bring them into the Deloitte building, teach them a bit about what Deloitte offers, explain generally what type of analytics work I do on my project and which tools I use, and then schedule some meetings between the student and Senior Managers/Partners who could also talk about what they do at Deloitte. Midtown Manhattan Honors Alumna: Danielle Denisenko SAS '14 (Planning and Public Policy, Psychology) Description of Organization: The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. In 2018 we raised approximately $118M and distributed over $111M in grants to research programs around the world. Description of Role: I am part of the grassroots fundraising arm of the Foundation's development team! We work with folks around the country to who want to fundraise in their local communities through events like 5Ks, galas, bowling nights, lemonade stands, etc and to connect them with the appropriate Foundation resources as appropriate! My role is a mix of event planning, relationship management, data analysis, and fundraising! A typical Summer Shadow day would involve: Shadowing inter-departmental and external meetings that I attend, and I could also set up 20-30 minute coffee chats with team members from other departments that the student may be interested in! Cybersecurity teams all over the world and ranging from tiny teams to Fortune 500 enterprises rely on us to help them identify threats and prevent attacks/breaches. Description of Role: Cofounder & COO of a cybersecurity threat intelligence startup, Pulsedive. As part of a tiny team, I'm responsible for the entire business operations and growth of the company - including product marketing, customer success, strategy, partnerships, internal policies and compliance, and finance. In addition, I run a consulting company working on strategic, highly researched and designed documents for clients in finance, technology, and real estate industries. A typical Summer Shadow day would involve: We can determine in advance the topics of interest for the session, though this day will be unique as I'm a nomadic worker going wherever I'm needed. Depending on the week, I might be training brand ambassadors for a sponsored "women in cybersecurity" event in Kenya, exhibiting at a technology conference, meeting with NJ State's Cybersecurity team, running user testing/feedback on a website re-design, or creating cash flow projections for the year.
